CBC Radio 2 launches THE GREAT CANADIAN SONG QUEST, immortalizing Canada's favourite places in song

    TORONTO, Sept. 7 /CNW/ - This fall, CBC Radio 2, Canada's national music
network, brings Canadians the chance to share their passion, and nominate
their favourite locations in the country to be celebrated in song through THE
GREAT CANADIAN SONG QUEST. Whether it's a secret meeting place, a sensational
signpost or a breathtaking wonder of nature, CBC Radio 2 wants to know!
    Canadians get the deciding vote on who writes and performs the songs from
among Canada's finest musical icons and emerging stars. The end result is an
incredible cross-country playlist, with 13 brand-new, original songs for
Canada's playbook. Each artist will compose and record an original song,
inspired by the locations chosen by Canadians from each province and
    "What better way to share our collective passion for Canadian music than
to hear directly from Canadian communities on what places and artists mean
most to them?" said Mark Steinmetz, director of music programming, CBC Radio.
"THE GREAT CANADIAN SONG QUEST is an incredible way to discover and bring
together the places, artists and music that make the Canadian musical
landscape unique."

    Monday, Sept. 7

    -   Canadians can get news and updates, and join THE GREAT CANADIAN SONG
        QUEST community online, at www.cbc.ca/radio2. From there, they can
        campaign for their favourite place through social media tools, blogs,
        tweets, Facebook, photo and video postings, and more.

    Monday, Sept. 28-Friday, Oct. 9

    -   Nominations open. Canadians can go to www.cbc.ca/radio2, and click
        the Song Quest logo to nominate and vote for their best-loved
        locations and landmarks.

    Monday, Oct. 12-Friday, Oct. 23

    -   Voting begins. Shortlists of the most popular locations from each
        province and territory are revealed, from which Canadians can vote
        for a single spot in each province and territory.
    -   Canadians can also vote for their favourite artists to compose and
        record the new Canadian songs, from a select list of Radio 2 Canadian

    Week of Oct. 26

    -   The 13 winning artists are announced and the composition phase

    Monday, Nov. 23

    -   The location results of THE GREAT CANADIAN SONG QUEST are revealed,
        with 13 brand new songs recorded by 13 talented Canadian songwriters,
        inspired by 13 special Canadian spots.

    Listeners can also tune into CBC Radio 2's Radio 2 Morning with Tom
Allen, airing weekdays from 6-9 a.m. E.T. (6:30-9 a.m. N.T.), and Radio 2
Drive with Rich Terfry, weekdays from 3:30-7 p.m. E.T. (4-7 p.m. N.T.), for
the latest updates and special programming.
