TORONTO, Nov. 28 /CNW/ - Catherine LeBlanc-Miller, Trustee for Ward 9,
has been elected as the Chair of the Toronto Catholic District School Board.
She was acclaimed at the Board's Caucus meeting this evening (November 28th).
Ms. LeBlanc-Miller assumes her new position on December 1st.
Ann Andrachuk, Trustee for Ward 2 was elected as Vice-Chair of the Board
while Barbara Poplawski, Trustee for Ward 10 was elected to the position of
Honorary Treasurer. Archbishop Thomas Collins was named the Honorary Director
"I am honoured that my colleagues have entrusted me with the
responsibility of leading the Toronto Catholic District School Board for the
year ahead," says Ms. LeBlanc-Miller, who has served as a Trustee with TCDSB
since 2002. "I have always been a strong advocate for publicly-funded Catholic
education, first as a parent and active community member, and later as a
Trustee for our Board. I look forward to working in close partnership with the
Ministry of Education, various levels of government and our own parent
communities as we continue the mission of providing the best possible
education to meet the diverse needs of the students in our Catholic schools."
Ms. LeBlanc-Miller has served as Vice-Chair and Honorary Treasurer for
TCDSB, Chair of TCDSB's Human Resources, Program and Religious Affairs
Committee and has also sat on numerous internal and external committees as a
In the community she has served on the steering committee of the
Fairmount Park Community Centre, she was the founding Chair of the Edgewood
Connection Parents/Child Centre and sat on the Applegrove Community Complex
Board of Directors. She also served on various Catholic School Advisory
Councils while her children attended TCDSB schools, and continues to serve
within her home parish of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
"This promises to be another busy and exciting year in Catholic
education," says the Chair-elect. "We will remain focussed on seeking
innovative and creative approaches that meet the needs of our multi-cultural
and diverse student population and promote the benefits of publicly funded
Catholic education to society."

The Toronto Catholic District School Board educates close to 90,000
