CASEUS Selection, Quebec Fine Cheese Competition - 2008 Finalists

    WARWICK, QC, June 13 /CNW Telbec/ - The Saint-Hyacinthe Campus of the
Institut de technologie agroalimentaire and the Corporation du Festival des
fromages de Warwick are proud to announce the 2008 finalists of the Sélection
Caseus Quebec fine cheese competition.
The 2008 competition had a record number of entrants, with more than
44 Quebec cheese makers submitting 163 fine cheeses for analysis by the panel
of judges. Of these, 57 were nominated for a Caseus award. For the organizers
of the competition, this year's turnout marked a significant increase in
registrations over 2007 and 2006. And this growth is a clear indication of the
vitality of the Quebec cheese industry, and of course the high quality of the
products on offer (<a href="">see appendix for complete list of 2008 finalists</a>.)

    Many new developments in 2008

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Sélection Caseus competition, and new
and embellished awards procedure has been developed. The 22 Sélection Caseus
awards will be presented at a cocktail dinner buffet to be held at the
National Assembly in Quebec City in the fall. Included among the guests will
be the representatives of the cheese makers that entered the competition,
along with many agrifood industry and media representatives.

    The people's choice award

Another new twist this year is the People's Choice Award, which is
designed to highlight consumers' taste in cheese. This award will also be
announced at the cocktail dinner buffet in Quebec City. The Warwick cheese
festival is the last step in a long tasting tour undertaken for the People's
Choice Award. Since last May, a team of cheese tasters has been making the
rounds of farmers' markets providing consumers with the opportunity to cast
their vote on the 11 cheeses in the competition. This tour continues through
to August.
With a clear focus on promoting fine cheeses made in Quebec, the
Sélection Caseus fine cheese competition was instituted in 1999. The
competition is governed jointly by the Saint-Hyacinthe campus of the Institut
de technologie agroalimentaire as lead organizer, and the Corporation du
Festival des fromages de Warwick, as the promoter.

The Corporation du Festival des fromages de Warwick, a not-for-profit
organization founded in 1995, manages four promotional components associated
with Quebec's cheese and agrotourism industries, namely the Warwick cheese
festival, the Salon des fromages fins, the Maison des fromages, and the
Sélection Caseus fine cheese competition.
