TORONTO, Sept. 15 /CNW/ - The first-ever Bill Swirsky Innovation
Leadership Award has been won by Donald G. Carter, PhD, FCA - Vice President
Learning with the CA School of Business (CASB).
The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) and the CaseWare
companies have teamed up to present a new annual award program dedicated to
innovators. Named after a prolific innovator and thought leader who retired in
2007 after more than 30 years at the CICA, the award recognizes an employee or
volunteer with the Institutes/Ordre who has demonstrated innovation with
outcomes that serve to advance the CA profession/accounting/financial
reporting nationally and/or internationally.
"For more than 25 years, Don has been making a significant contribution
to accounting education in Canada," said Kevin Dancey, FCA, President and CEO,
CICA. "He has been a major force in developing an innovative curriculum,
high-quality course materials and a leading edge web-based delivery
methodology for CASB."
CASB is a registered charity formed in 2000 by the Alberta, British
Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan Institutes of Chartered Accountants. CASB
also oversees the education of CA students in the Yukon Territory, Northwest
Territories and Nunavut.
"It is an honour to be recognized by your peers," said Carter. "The fact
this is the inaugural presentation of the award makes receiving it
particularly gratifying. Bill Swirsky and I go back many years and it is
indeed an honour to receive an award in his name."
The winning entry was chosen by a judging panel consisting of a
representative from the CICA Council of Senior Executives, the Institute's
President and CEO and a CaseWare representative.
"Tomorrow's endeavors rest on a foundation created by today's
innovation," said Dwight Wainman, CEO, CaseWare International Inc. "By its
