OTTAWA, Oct. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - Statistics Canada's report on university
tuition fees, for the 2007/2008 academic year, will be released on Thursday,
October 18th, 2007.
The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations will be available for
comment throughout the day in response to the report.
The survey of Tuition and Living Accommodation Costs (TLAC) has
reportedly been modified this year. Statistics Canada's delay of the report is
expected to produce more detailed information than in the past, as well as an
increase of institutions surveyed from around 60 to 102.
In recent years, the tuition study has demonstrated a steady increase in
post-secondary tuition fees across the country, confirming the woes of
students and parents. While the costs of tuition in the provinces of Quebec,
Manitoba and Newfoundland have remained below the national average, students
in Nova Scotia, Alberta and Saskatchewan have been paying notably higher
prices for a post-secondary education.
In light of the upcoming report, CASA looks forward to providing an
outlet for student voices to be heard and understood.
The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations is a not-for-profit
national student organization, offering progressive, common sense education
