Canadian Partnership Against Cancer Names Advisory Council

    Talent, experience and tremendous dedication noted as new national cancer
    advisors named

    TORONTO, Nov. 14 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of the Canadian
Partnership Against Cancer today announced the members of its first national
Advisory Council on Cancer Control.
    "The members of this panel embody tremendous talent, experience and
dedication to the fight to control cancer," said Jeffrey C. Lozon, chair of
the Partnership's Board of Directors
    "This group will provide essential input in the shaping the future of the
battle against this disease as the Partnership implements the first Canadian
cancer control strategy," added Mr. Lozon.
    The Council's members are drawn from across the country and encompass a
wide spectrum of stakeholders in Canada's cancer community. The Council will
provide expert advice to the Partnership on emerging issues, best practices
and priorities in cancer control and on implementation of the Canada-wide
    Dr. Simon Sutcliffe is chair of the Advisory Council. Dr. Sutcliffe also
serves as vice-chair of the Partnership's Board of Directors. Members of the

    About the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer

    The Canadian Partnership Against Cancer was announced in November 2006 by
Prime Minister Stephen Harper. This independent corporation brings together
survivors, cancer experts, government representatives and other stakeholders
from across the country to work together on a Canadian cancer control
strategy. The Partnership is eligible to received $250 million over five years
to implement a strategy with three main objectives:

    -   reducing the expected number of new cases of cancer among Canadians,
    -   enhancing the quality of life of those living with cancer,
    -   lessening the likelihood of Canadians dying from cancer.
