Canadian Olympians Honour Canada's Veterans

OTTAWA, Nov. 11, 2011 /CNW/ - Eight Canadian Olympians will honour Canada's veterans as part of the capital's Remembrance Day ceremonies, laying a wreath at the national war memorial in Ottawa this morning.

"We are eternally grateful for the sacrifices of Canada's veterans," said Canadian Olympic Committee President Marcel Aubut. "Canadian Olympians are proud to be involved in this solemn day of reflection and of appreciation for the tireless work of the Canadian Forces."

Sheridon Baptiste (Bobsleigh, 1992, 1994), Deidra Dionne (Freestyle Skiing - 2002 Olympic silver medallist), Glenroy Gilbert (1996 Olympic gold medallist - Athletics), Sue Holloway (1984 Olympic silver medallist - Canoe/Kayak), Mike Kusiewicz (Baseball, 2004), Rob Marland (1992 Olympic gold medallist - Rowing), Bill Meyer (Water Polo, 1984) and John Ossowski (Rowing, 1988) represented all of Canada's Olympians in paying tribute to the men and women of Canada's Armed Forces.

"Canada's veterans have dedicated their lives to keep us safe," said Deidra Dionne, Chair of the Canadian Olympic Committee's Athletes' Commission. "All the athletes here today are proud to observe this ceremony and to honour their selfless contribution to our society."
