Canadian life and health insurance industry leader to chair Canada's Task Force on Financial Literacy

TORONTO, June 26 /CNW/ - The Canadian Life and Health Insurance
Association congratulates Donald A. Stewart, Chief Executive Officer of Sun
Life Financial upon his appointment today as Chair of Canada's Task Force on
Financial Literacy. The life and health insurance industry strongly supports
this initiative by the government to better equip Canadians to understand the
financial products and services that are available to them and the
implications of the financial decisions that they make. "As one of Canada's
most respected and experienced leaders in our financial services sector, we
are delighted that Donald Stewart has been chosen to chair this important Task
Force," said CLHIA President Frank Swedlove.
The CLHIA contributes to improving financial literacy through its own
public education initiatives. This includes the publication of a number of
consumer brochures on industry products and services such as life insurance,
supplementary health insurance, travel health insurance, segregated funds and
the coordination of benefits. These brochures are all available on the CLHIA's
website under Consumer Assistance.
The Canadian life and health insurance industry provides a wide range of
financial security products, including life insurance, annuities (including
RRSPs, RRIFs and pensions) and supplementary health insurance, to about 26
million Canadians and their dependants. Established in 1894, the CLHIA is a
voluntary association whose member companies account for 99 per cent of
Canada's life and health insurance business.
