TORONTO, June 4 /CNW Telbec/ - 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the
Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Under the patronage of His
Excellency Matthias Hvpfner, German Ambassador to Canada, the Chamber will
celebrate this important milestone of its history with its members, friends
and distinguished representatives of the Canadian German business community on
June 11, 2008, at the Pointe-à-Callière museum in Old Montreal.
The Chamber was founded 40 years ago in Montreal by a small group of
German business people and serves as a link, forum and service for flourishing
Canadian German economic relations ever since.
The trade volume between Germany and Canada has grown rapidly over the
past 40 years from roughly C$ 600 million in 1970 to C$15,000 million in 2007.
Historically, Germany has been an important trading partner for Canada.
Currently, it ranks number six in terms of bilateral trade volume. The
Canadian German Chamber actively promotes the economic exchange and has
largely expanded its physical representations as well as its service portfolio
since it first came into existence. As of today, the Canadian German Chamber
employs a team of 35 skilled professionals and represents roughly 600 Canadian
and German members in its three branch offices in Toronto, Montreal and
