BURNABY, BC, June 13 /CNW/ - At its International meeting in Las Vegas,

largest membership organization training professionals about aging, and
through CASA, can access a single, credible source of information for
professionals serving the 55-plus population.
Awards were presented for Individual and Corporate Achievement.
Recipients of the Awards of Excellence in the Individual category went to Alex
Handyside, Founder, President and CEO of ScotiaCare Homecare & Caregivers Inc.
of Dartmouth, N.S.; and Victoria real estate/financial professional Rick
Hoogendoorn. The Award of Merit was presented to Estate lawyer Patrick Murphy
of Ottawa. In the Corporate category, the Award of Excellence was presented to
BMO Financial Group, and Awards of Merit were presented to Publishers Barbara
and Barry Risto of Senior Living Magazine and Susan Bessant and John Ashby,
Owners of Signature Care of Calgary.
As imagined, there were many nominations, each scrutinized and vigorously
debated by an impartial Review Committee, and only those meeting the standards
of leadership, innovation and quality of service to the Canadian 55-plus
community advanced in the selection process.
Speaking on behalf of CASA, organization President Rhonda Latreille said,
"In Canada, Seniors are the fastest growing segment of our population. By 2016
there will be more Canadians over the age of 65 than children under the age of
14. This behoves us to acquire a better understanding of the processes of
aging so that we can provide more age-appropriate, relevant, and responsive
services and products to our maturing clients, while respecting and honouring
the unique needs and contributions of our older citizens. Certified Senior
Advisors represented by these stellar honourees understand the evolving needs
of their clients, and are committed to the provision of sound and ethical
services to Canada's Boomer and Senior populations."
"Those given recognition at this year's convention represent "the best of
the best" when it comes to providing outstanding services to maturing
Canadians. All who were recognized understand the need for imparting the
highest quality of care and service to their clients.
"We are proud of their contributions and with these Awards celebrate
their leadership in enhancing the lives of so many Canadians," she concluded.
