CALGARY, Aug. 19 /CNW/ - Canada Safeway Limited today has a new
collective agreement for the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Union
Local 1518, covering approximately 8,000 employees in B.C. The deal was
ratified by employee union members on August 18, 2008.
"The new collective agreement provides wage and benefits increases for
our employees while allowing Canada Safeway Limited to remain competitive in

The agreement will be in effect August 24, 2008 until March 31, 2013.
The Company continues to negotiate independently with United Food and
Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 247 and the Bakery, Confectionery,
Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM) Local 468 to
reach fair and equitable collective agreements.
Canada Safeway Limited is divided into three operating areas: B.C., with
76 grocery stores; Alberta, with 82 grocery stores; and Saskatchewan, Manitoba
and Ontario with 55 grocery stores. The Company currently has more than 28,500
employees working throughout its three operating areas. The corporate office
