Canada gets rare $12,000 Macallan whisky in Lalique crystal - The ultimate gift for the man who has everything

TORONTO, Dec. 12 /CNW/ - The Macallan, the world's most precious whisky,
and Lalique, the world's pre-eminent crystal house, have created a masterpiece
that will appeal to connoisseurs and collectors - and the man who has
everything this holiday season. This month, Canadians have the rare
opportunity to purchase the Macallan 55-year-old single malt in a stunning,
limited-edition Lalique crystal decanter - one of only 10 available in Canada,
and 420 in the world. Each Macallan in Lalique Natural Colour Decanter is
individually-numbered and will fetch $12,000 CDN.
"Recognizing the growth in the Canadian market for luxury spirits, we
really pushed to get a significant allocation, and this is a great
accomplishment," says Chris Spalding, Canadian Brand Manager. "Canada
continues to see strong demand for premium single malt whisky, and
particularly for The Macallan."
The Macallan and Lalique partnership brings together two iconic luxury
brands. The current collaboration represents the most prestigious of The
Macallan's endeavours, celebrating the shared values of craftsmanship,
artistry and quality, and bringing together the undisputed 'Masters of
Crystal' with the 'Masters of Spirit and Wood.'
The first Macallan in Lalique decanter, released in 2006, paid homage to
the carefully selected wood casks in which the spirit matures. The current
collaboration (only the second for The Macallan and Lalique) celebrates the
natural colour which results from the interaction of spirit and wood to
deliver the rich diversity of colour evident throughout The Macallan's range
of outstanding whisky.
The Macallan 55-year-old single malt contained in the decanter is cask
strength (40.1% abv) and has remained undisturbed for over half a century at
Easter Elchies House - The Macallan's spiritual home on Speyside, Scotland -
where it matured through the decades in a sherry oak cask. Dark rosewood in
colour, the liquid has aromatic notes of exotic, sweet dried fruits with a
hint of peat-smoke; the finish is wonderfully soft, smooth and spicy with
lingering touches of citrus.
The Natural Colour Decanter was created by the Lalique design team in
Paris and is based on the classic Paquerettes tiara perfume bottle designed by
Rene Lalique in 1910. It is a mix of masculine and feminine shapes and the
stopper is made in amber crystal, one of the most difficult colours for
crystal makers to achieve. Hand crafted at Lalique's crystal-making facility
in Alsace, each piece was created by up to 25 craftsmen, many of whom have
attained the 'Meilleur ouvrier de France' - the Finest Craftsman of France
Each decanter bears the esteemed 'Lalique France' signature symbolizing
authenticity and over 100 years of creativity, heritage and craftsmanship, and
comes in a specially-designed leather and silk presentation box with a crystal
stopper and leather-bound collectors guide that details the fine workmanship
that has gone into producing this beautiful object d'art.
The Macallan in Lalique Natural Colour Decanter, the second in a series
of six Macallan in Lalique offerings, is available at select Canadian spirit
retailers or through Maxxium Canada.
