Calling all budding designers: Sony Canada launches "THIS VAIO PC IS ME" contest

    TORONTO, Sept. 30 /CNW/ - Taking personalization to the next level, Sony
of Canada Ltd. today announced a competition that challenges consumers to
create their own personalized designs for a new line of Sony VAIO(R) FW
notebook computers.
    Starting October 1, 2008 through November 15, 2008, Canadians can submit
their proposed designs online at along with a profile of
themselves and a brief description of their inspiration for their design.
    "The PC is becoming a more personalized tool, and for many, notebook
styles are an extension of their personalities," said Puneet Jain, director of
VAIO product marketing at Sony of Canada Ltd. "The "THIS VAIO PC IS ME"
contest enables consumers to express and share their style with the rest of
the world. This is a unique opportunity to become part of the Sony VAIO design
process and become an integral part of the essence of the VAIO brand."
    The general public will be asked to commence voting for their favourite
design on November 16th, 2008 to January 11, 2009. The top ten designs will
then be judged by an internal panel to select the top 3 winning designs.
Winners will be announced January 30, 2009 at and, the online homepage of The Toronto Star.
    Second and third place winners will each receive a VAIO notebook of their
choice, valued at up to $2,000.
    The winning design, as selected by Sony's panel of judges, will be made
into a limited edition VAIO FW customizable model and sold across Canada. The
grand prize winner will receive a VAIO notebook emblazoned with their winning
design and a trip for two valued at $5,000.
