CAE wins new contract valued at US$66 million for additional U.S. Navy MH-60S helicopter simulators

TAMPA, FL, Aug. 13 /CNW Telbec/ - (NYSE: CGT; TSX: CAE) - CAE USA has
been awarded a contract by the United States Navy valued at more than
US$66 million (C$70 million), including options, to design and manufacture
three additional MH-60S operational flight trainers (OFTs) and two additional
MH-60S weapons tactics trainers (WTTs). The Navy has exercised the first
option, valued at more than US$15 million, to begin design and development of
an MH-60S OFT.
CAE USA is now under contract to design and build seven MH-60S OFTs and
six MH-60S WTTs for the U.S. Navy. The new MH-60S OFTs will all be full-motion
simulators also featuring CAE's unique three degree-of-freedom (DOF)
helicopter vibration platform for added realism. The new MH-60S OFTs and WTTs
will be delivered to either Naval Air Station (NAS) Norfolk or NAS North
Island beginning in 2009.
"After winning the MH-60S program in 2004, we have delivered solid
program performance and the Navy has seen first-hand our helicopter simulation
expertise and experience for both flight and rear crews," said John Lenyo,
President and General Manager, CAE USA. "We are extremely pleased that after
the latest competitive procurement for MH-60S training systems, the Navy has
once again placed its trust and confidence in CAE as their rotary-wing
training partner."
CAE began delivering MH-60S simulators to the Navy in early 2006. To
date, CAE has delivered two MH-60S OFTs to NAS Norfolk, and one MH-60S OFT to
NAS North Island. In addition, CAE has delivered one MH-60S WTT to NAS Norfolk
and one MH-60S WTT to NAS North Island. The MH-60S WTTs are used to train the
sensor operators and rear-crew. When networked together, the OFT and WTT form
an MH-60S tactical operational flight trainer (TOFT) that provides a total
aircrew mission training solution.
Last week, CAE announced the United States Navy had exercised a contract
option for CAE to design and manufacture a third MH-60R TOFT. CAE won the
MH-60R program in 2006 and will begin delivering MH-60R TOFTs in late 2008 to
NAS Mayport. CAE is under contract, including options, to design and
manufacture a total of four MH-60R TOFTs.
The MH-60S and MH-60R helicopters form the cornerstone of the Navy's
Helicopter Master Plan with both helicopters sharing a common cockpit and
technology. The MH-60S Knighthawk is used for missions such as vertical
replenishment and airborne mine countermeasures. The MH-60R Seahawk is used
primarily for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare. The Navy plans to
procure 271 MH-60S helicopters and 254 MH-60R helicopters through 2015.
