War Amps wins top awards at New York City Film Festival

NEW YORK CITY, March 30 /CNW Telbec/ - A War Amps production titled
Morgan was a top winner at the International Mercury Awards last night in New
York City, winning the Grand and Gold Awards.
Part of The War Amps Winner's Circle Series, Morgan tells the story of a
young girl from Aurora, Ontario, who has not let being born a multiple amputee
stand in the way of leading a full and active life. It includes scenes of the
artificial limbs and devices she uses for archery, playing music, knitting and
her favourite activity, dancing.
The Winner's Circle Series, including Morgan, can be viewed on The War
Amps Web site at www.waramps.ca/champ/video/winners/profile.php.
Produced by War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton, the Series is named for the
philosophy that is the cornerstone of the Association's Child Amputee (CHAMP)
Program. "These profiles tell the stories of young Champs like Morgan who set
an example by living life to the fullest despite their amputations and, in
doing so, enter what we call The Winner's Circle," Chadderton said.
Morgan attended the Ceremony last night and accepted the Awards, which
were given in the Public Service category. In her acceptance speech, she
thanked Cliff Chadderton and The War Amps for the support she has received
from CHAMP, adding that she was honoured and proud to appear in the Series.
Another War Amps production, PLAYSAFE! in BC, won a Gold Award in the
Safety category. The two-minute production features young Champ Adam of
Smithers, BC, a right leg amputee due to a lawnmower accident, and shows how
he helps The War Amps spread its PLAYSAFE message in the province.
