MONTREAL, June 12, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - BRP designers today revealed the trophies of the 2011 edition of the Formula One Grand Prix du Canada. The designers were inspired by local artistic, cultural and technological landmarks, as well as Canada's emblem for its form and colour.

The concept of BRP designers André Côté, Ivan Brousseau and Steve Tétreault won an internal competition within BRP's Design & Innovation group. In their regular duties, the three designers belong to the award-winning Sea-Doo and Ski-Doo team, developing cutting-edge designs for boats, watercraft and snowmobiles.

"This opportunity to work on a completely different project forced us out of our comfort zone," said BRP's Denys Lapointe, executive vice-president of Design & Innovation. "While our mandate is to create the recreational vehicles of the future, changing focus was challenging, stimulating and so rewarding for my team."

BRP was approached by Octane Racing Group because of its reputation for design excellence, having received numerous design awards. The winning concept by BRP designers Côté, Brousseau and Tétreault was chosen amongst six design proposals from several teams. The jury was comprised of Octane and BRP representatives and selected two contenders based on criteria's such as originality, strength of symbolic, feasibility, while respecting F1 trophy guidelines. The final selection was made by the management of Grand Prix du Canada with F1 officials.

"It has been a great experience to work with BRP design group on this great project. Joining forces with the creative minds assembled in Valcourt by Denys Lapointe has been very productive," said François Dumontier, president of the Grand Prix du Canada. "We are extremely proud of the trophies we will award today at the Grand Prix du Canada podium."
