Bridgewater Systems Accelerates Access to IP Services with Policy-Driven IP Address Management Solution

Operators can now support data services growth through dynamic management
of IP address pools based on subscriber context

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 13 /CNW/ - Bridgewater Systems (TSX:BWC) today
announced availability of an IP address management solution which improves the
speed with which corporate and consumer customers gain access to IP services,
and provides service providers greater scalability and management for their IP
data services. The solution is currently being deployed with a mobile service
provider in North Asia.
The need for flexible and high performance management of IP address
resources to enable secure and efficient subscriber access is becoming a key
requirement for service providers offering IP services to a broad range of
subscriber groups, including consumers and enterprises. The Bridgewater(R) IP
address management (IPAM) solution supports the dynamic assignment of IP
addresses with very little latency - thousands of addresses per second -
compared to traditional DHCP-based IP address management schemes. This
improves both the overall scalability of the network, and the subscriber
quality of experience in using the network by giving them access to the
network and applications faster and more efficiently.
The IPAM solution integrates seamlessly with Bridgewater's carrier-grade
AAA Service Controller, which is compliant with relevant 3GPP and 3GPP2
standards for delivering IP addresses and provides robust RADIUS and Diameter
functionality to meet the scalability, performance and load demands of major
wireless service providers around the world.
"As the volume of IP services continues to grow, Bridgewater can meet the
demand for high-performance IP address management by the operators and their
customers," said Farshid Mohammadi, vice president, product line management
for Bridgewater Systems. "We believe our carrier-grade solution for managing
access to IP services, as well as our ability to enable a seamless migration
towards a network built around subscriber context and policy-based decisions
will allow operators to excel in servicing subscribers in their markets for IP
The AAA Service Controller features a subscriber data management
capability that provides a centralized view of subscribers, including the
current state of each subscriber showing when and how they are using the IP
networks. This dynamic subscriber context allows service providers to
determine not only which IP address to assign, but also when to immediately
recover an IP address and reallocate it to other users.
Because IP addresses are returned to the pool as soon as a subscriber
leaves the network rather than through lease expiration, operators can be
assured the maximum number of IP addresses are available to meet their
corporate customer needs. This allows for flexible policy-based IP address
allocation decisions to be implemented in the network, improving subscriber
service activation responses. In addition, operators are able to centrally
manage how multiple IP address pools are allocated across physical and logical
network boundaries to enable highly flexible management of the allocation
process and a flexible approach to meeting service commitments with dedicated
pools for corporate customers.
Integrated with the AAA Service Controller, the IP Address Management
solution supports interoperability with other third-party platforms and
applications, allowing operators to maintain existing billing and business
procedures despite the change in how IP addresses are allocated throughout the
network, and enables easy integration into multi-vendor and multi-access
network environments.
