Blue Jays Reed Johnson to have surgery

    TORONTO, April 16 /CNW/ - TORONTO BLUE JAYS outfielder REED JOHNSON will
undergo surgery to repair a herniated disc in his lower back.
    The surgery will be performed tomorrow in St. Petersburg, Florida by
spine specialist, Dr. Thomas Tolli. At the present time, the club is hopeful
that Johnson will return to the club in July.
    Johnson, 30, appeared in seven games this season batting .265 with one
home run and seven RBI before being placed on the disabled list on April 11.
