BiopolisQuébec and Life Sciences Ontario to work together within the Quebec-Ontario Corridor

OTTAWA, June 28, 2011 /CNW/ - Rx&D President Russell Williams made the following statement to complement the announcement made earlier today by BiopolisQuébec and Life Sciences Ontario (LSO) announcing the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between BiopolisQuébec, the alliance of leading life sciences regions in the province of Quebec and LSO, which represents the life sciences in Ontario.

"Today's joint announcement reflects a commitment by Canada's life sciences sector. The signature of the MOU between BiopolisQuébec and Life Sciences Ontario is a major initiative, which will help formalize and establish one of the first important strategic partnerships within the Quebec-Ontario Life Sciences Corridor.

"The provinces of Quebec and Ontario have created a world-class trade corridor, a key initiative, under the Ontario-Quebec Trade and Cooperation Agreement that will allow the two organizations to work together in ideal conditions by sharing a common business space where trade barriers are reduced thus improving long-term economic cooperation. BiopolisQuébec and Life Sciences Ontario will be able to exchange best business practices, identify collaborative projects and define strategies for continued growth and success.

The chance to improve patient health and quality of life through research and innovation is what motivates all those active in the life science community. This partnership is a perfect example of major innovation collaboration between the two organizations and provides a continuation of the commitment to furthering life sciences innovation in Canada. The impacts on the life sciences community, including both the public research and the industry, will be far reaching and will showcase Ontario and Quebec as a world-class centre for life sciences research.

"It is by working together that we can consolidate the position of Ontario, Quebec and Canada as leaders in the provision of health care solutions to people across the country and throughout the world."
