Biggest Lottery Win in Northwest Territories History!

WINNIPEG, Nov. 1 /CNW/ - Barkley and Ann Heron made history on
October 27th, when they won the biggest lottery Jackpot ever awarded in the
Northwest Territories. They won a whopping $11,361,328.30 on Saturday's LOTTO
6/49 draw!
Barkley bought a 9-number Combination Play ticket and matched all six
numbers plus the Bonus on one line. There was one other winner of the
$22 Million Jackpot that night - a ticket sold somewhere in Alberta that has
yet to be claimed.
"I always go for coffee on Saturday night, then go home and check my
lottery tickets, then take the dog for a walk. Saturday night - the dog didn't
get his walk!" laughed Barkley.
The Herons own The Rapid Corner Store in Fort Smith, NWT, where they
bought their tickets for the October 27th draw. Once the couple had checked
their tickets against the winning numbers posted on, they
returned to their gas station and shared their good fortune by dropping the
price of gasoline to $.50 a litre!
"We couldn't confirm it until the next morning, and we weren't sure how
many other tickets had won. But we knew we'd won a pretty big prize, so we
decided to share our good luck with our community," said Ann.
Barkley and Ann Heron have one daughter and have lived in Fort Smith all
of their lives. The community means a great deal to them, and they would never
consider leaving it.
"I love everything about Fort Smith," Barkley asserted. "I love the quiet
and the northern lights. I love that there's no violence here and that
everybody talks to each other. I love the feel of the air when it's forty
below and the sound that the snow makes."
"I want to do something for my community with this money," said Ann.
"I've got some ideas, but I want to talk to people and find out what we really
need." She's thinking about helping out the local cathedral with some needed
repairs or maybe starting a soup kitchen.
Previously, the largest lottery prize won on a ticket purchased in
Northwest Territories was $1,091,002, won in May 1989 by a Yellowknife
resident. The Herons' win marks the seventh lottery prize of $1 Million or
more in the territory over the past 20 years, and the second in the last three
weeks. On October 10th, a 19-year-old Yellowknife resident claimed $1 Million
