TORONTO, June 24 /CNW/ - Star Board Communications, owner of Classic Hits
95.5 and Cool 100 Country Music radio stations in Belleville will receive a
Fire Safety Partner Award from the Fire Marshal of Ontario at a ceremony on
June 25, 2008 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding
contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
Star Board Communications partnered with the Belleville Fire Department
to raise awareness about fire safety by broadcasting public service
announcements (PSAs) relating to holiday fire safety, smoke alarms, safe
candle use, carbon monoxide alarms and safe cooking. Star Board Communications
initially agreed to run the PSAs on their two radio stations for a period of
30 days, free of charge; however they continued to air the PSAs for
approximately four months.
"Many fire departments face the challenge of reaching everyone in their
communities, especially people that are at a high risk for fire," said Fire
Marshal Patrick Burke. "Star Board Communications' commitment to air free
public service announcements for their local fire department has undoubtedly
helped to keep residents of the Belleville area safe from fire."
Fire departments throughout the province nominated individuals and
organizations for this year's awards; 17 recipients were selected. The
Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Rick Bartolucci and
Fire Marshal Burke will present the awards at a luncheon ceremony at the
Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto.
