Bell mobile phone take-back program supports WWF-Canada

$1 for every phone returned will fund WWF-Canada climate change and
    conservation work

TORONTO, Ontario, June 5 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell Canada today announced that
it will donate one dollar to WWF-Canada for every mobile phone or personal
digital assistant (PDA) returned through the company's award-winning Mobile
Take-Back Program.
Mobile phones collected through the Bell Mobile Take-Back Program are
refurbished for reuse or dismantled and recycled. Launched in 2003 and
available at all Bell Stores, the program saw almost 100,000 phones and 21
tonnes of batteries diverted from landfill sites last year alone.
Now, every phone returned through the program will mean a donation to
support WWF-Canada's ongoing climate change and conservation work.
"We're delighted that our popular phone take-back program is assisting
WWF-Canada in its important conservation work, including the organization's
ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," said Jackie Foo, Vice
President of Corporate Stores for Bell Mobility. "The program is a great
example of Bell's long-standing commitment to reduce our overall impact on the
environment, inside and outside the company."
"Bell's commitment to support WWF-Canada means that your decision to
recycle your old mobile phone will reduce e-waste and contribute to
WWF-Canada's efforts to fight global warming," said Mike Russill, President
and CEO, WWF-Canada. "We are grateful that Bell's longstanding Mobile
Take-Back Program has been extended to aid our work to reduce the threat of
global warming."
Bell will also draw on WWF-Canada's technical expertise to help
strengthen its climate change strategy and activities, including efforts to
document and communicate the climate change benefits of teleconferencing,
energy monitoring and electronic billing. In 2006, Bell estimates its
electronic billing enrolments eliminated the need for 16.6 million pieces of
paper and saved 468 metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from entering
the environment.
