Bell donating $1 to Cybertip.ca for every new Sympatico Total Internet customer

More than 60% of Canadian Internet users still concerned by online
    threats

TORONTO, Ontario, Aug. 23 /CNW Telbec/ - As part of its ongoing
commitment to online safety and security, Bell Canada today announced it will
donate $1 to Cybertip.ca for every new Sympatico Total Internet customer
during the back to school period. Cybertip.ca is Canada's national tipline for
reporting online sexual exploitation of children.
"Through our Cybertip.ca contribution program, Bell extends its
commitment to online safety and security, educating consumers and protecting
families online," said Kevin Crull, President, Bell Residential Services. "In
addition to this donation program, Bell will continue to deliver best-of-breed
products and services, to create and maintain a safe and positive online
experience for customers."
The new Bell initiative coincides with the results of a recent nationwide
survey that explored the opinions of today's Internet users. The survey showed
that more than 60% of Canadian home Internet users feel at risk from online
security threats including credit card fraud, email spam, virus attacks and
potential online predators.
"This new investment is another example of Bell Canada's longstanding
commitment to Cybertip.ca and the leadership it has shown in protecting
children online," said Signy Arnason, Director of Cybertip.ca. "Every dollar
invested, can mean the difference between a child exploited and a child
protected. We commend Bell Canada for making online child protection a
priority."
In addition, the same survey conducted by Maritz Research showing that
most Canadians still feel threatened by the risk of fraud and other online
crimes, also found that approximately half of all Canadian home Internet users
(46%) named safety as the number one thing they want offered by their Internet
service provider.
Bell is renowned for its commitment to online safety. This past spring,
the company was recognized with an award from the Authentication and Online
Trust Alliance (AOTA), for its continuing leadership in preserving and
improving online safety, consumer education and ongoing technological
innovation.
"Bell has significantly improved its Sympatico Internet products to
deliver a total Internet solution, which includes our award winning safety and
security," said Charlotte Burke, SVP, Bell Consumer Internet. "Sympatico Total
Internet combines industry leading Internet access with security, support and
the wireless freedom to deliver the ultimate online experience."
