Bell Canada comments on Ontario Budget - Welcomes recognition of the importance of the ICT sector to Ontario economy

Ontario Budget's recognition of the significance of the information and
communications technology (ICT) sector to Ontario's economy, as well as the
provincial government's commitment to several key ICT-related investments that
will benefit Ontario businesses and citizens alike.

    The Ontario budget included several measures clearly demonstrating the

    - an additional $64 million in 2007-08 to promote Ontario's comprehensive
      e-Health strategy, an area in which Bell is already contributing to the
      transformation of health care through innovative networks and
      applications that are improving patient care and safety; and
    - $10 million in 2007-08 to help expand broadband coverage in rural
      southern Ontario by leveraging community and private-sector investment,
      services for which Bell has developed cutting edge expertise through
      many years of working with communities across the province.

    "While the budget contains several positive steps, there is more work to
be done regarding taxes on capital inputs imposed through the Ontario Retail
