Bell Aliant completes purchase of KMTS

KENORA, ON, Feb. 1 /CNW/ - The City of Kenora and Bell Aliant Regional
Communications Income Fund ("Bell Aliant") (TSX: BA.UN), are pleased to
announce that the sale of the assets and business of Kenora Municipal
Telephone System (KMTS) to Bell Aliant has been officially completed.
"KMTS employees understand their customers and have a strong commitment
to their community," said Stephen Wetmore, president and CEO of Bell Aliant.
"We look forward to working with our new colleagues as we advance this
business together."
The acquisition is a natural fit for Bell Aliant, with its focus on
serving customers in regional communities that include neighbouring areas of
Kenora in Northern Ontario. Bell Aliant has offered employment to all current
KMTS staff, to ensure a seamless transition for its customers and to maintain
a strong emphasis on sponsorship and investment in the community.
"Today marks a new and exciting beginning for the City of Kenora," said
Mayor Len Compton. "We are confident that Bell Aliant will deliver competitive
service and value to KMTS customers and to our community."
The members of Kenora City Council granted final authorization for the
transaction on January 15, 2008 following a public information meeting held in
Kenora. Customary terms and conditions were since met, including regulatory
approvals from Industry Canada and the Canadian Radio-television and
Telecommunications Commission.
