Beijing's General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army to install IMRISneuro

System will be China's first high-field intra-operative MRI

WINNIPEG, Feb. 1 /CNW/ - IMRIS Inc. (TSX: IM) - Dr. Xu Bainan, Chairman
of Neurosurgery of PLA 301 Hospital in Beijing, China announced that the
hospital has chosen the IMRIS intra-operative MRI solution, IMRISneuro, for
its expanding neurosurgical department.
The hospital will be the first in China to house IMRISneuro; a fully
integrated operating room that combines a one-of-a-kind movable MRI with the
IMRIS surgical information management system. Without moving the patient,
IMRISneuro allows surgeons to safely image patients during brain surgery.
Completion and handover of the system is scheduled for spring 2008.
"Our neurosurgeons are world class, and we have a history of leading the
way in the early adoption of new technologies," said Dr. Xu Bainan. "It is
important that our doctors have access to the most effective and sophisticated
tools available to assist them." He went on to say, "IMRIS has the best
overall iMRI solution for our hospital."
IMRISneuro provides surgeons more precise information in the operating
room, which allows them to make better surgical decisions with the ultimate
goal of improving patient outcomes. This surgical imaging system uses a unique
ceiling mounted track that moves the MRI to the patient rather than the
patient being moved to the MRI, thereby improving patient safety in the
surgical environment.
When the MRI is not required in the operating room during surgery, it is
moved out of the area completely and into an adjoining suite where it will be
used for diagnostic imaging.
"We are honored that IMRISneuro is the intra-operative solution chosen by
Dr. Xu and his team," said David Graves, President and CEO of IMRIS. "It
reflects well on IMRIS to be selected by another center of excellence, and
continues to validate our leading edge technology."
China PLA General Hospital and Military Postgraduate Medical College,
commonly known as 301 Hospital, is the largest military hospital in China. It
encompasses 4,000 beds and 50 medical centers, including specialties in
orthopedics, cardiovascular and neurosurgery.

    About IMRIS:
