TORONTO, May 9 /CNW/ - A magician, a princess-in-training, an alien, a famous basketball player… there's no shortage of colourful characters to come through the doors of Tati's Hotel, a new live-action series making its North American premiere Tuesday May 31 at 5 pm ET on TVOKids' afterschool block, The Space.

Co-produced by TVO, Tati's Hotel combines live action with puppetry and stars a sprightly eight-year-old (Mya-Lecia Naylor) who manages a magical hotel. As guests from around the world check in, it's up to Tati and her staff of kids and puppets to make guests feel welcome, but also to deal with the baggage of interesting challenges each guest brings with them.

A dentist who's lost his tooth along with his confidence? No problem. A musician who can't find an appreciative audience for his tunes? Tati and staff to the rescue. A grumpy weatherman who's bummed by the rain? Count on Tati to put the sunshine back in his day. By working together, thinking positively and finding solutions, Tati, staff and guests all gain valuable knowledge of the world beyond what's familiar to them.

Tati's Hotel features Toronto actors Yaari Maggenheim (as Linny the handyman) and Jake Raymond (Bopper the bellboy), and also draws on the talent of Canada's puppet community to bring the show's puppet cast to life.

"We're thrilled to offer the North American premiere of Tati's Hotel on TVOKids," says Patricia Ellingson, Creative Head of Children's Media at TVO. "We take pride in bringing our viewers something unique in the television landscape: this is one of the few live-action series being developed and produced for the grade-school audience. Kids will enjoy the fun and adventure in each episode, and parents will appreciate how Tati's Hotel encourages important life skills in kids such as taking initiative, problem-solving, and being open to new things and experiences."
