Corporate executives to compete for word supremacy at Frontier
College's SCRABBLE(R) Corporate Challenge
TORONTO, Feb. 11 /CNW/ - On March 11, top executives from Bay Street's
banks, investment, accounting, and law firms, will present their starting
lineups at the fifth annual SCRABBLE(R) Corporate Challenge, presented by TMX
From managing boardroom power plays to arranging SCRABBLE(R) tiles, teams
will compete for the coveted TMX Cup to help raise funds for Frontier College,
Canada's original literacy organization, to provide literacy programs for
children, youth and adults across Canada.
"TMX Group is proud to support the SCRABBLE(R) Corporate Challenge and
the important work of Frontier College," said Tom Kloet, TMX Group CEO. "On
behalf of TMX, I would like to say thank you to Frontier College for the
contributions you make to our community."
This year at the Design Exchange, PricewaterhouseCoopers' Alphabet Soup
will defend their TMX Cup title. Those looking to defeat
PricewaterhouseCoopers include former champions, CNW Group's Newsmakers (2007)
and the Scotiabank Nerdiques (2005 and 2006). On March 11, companies including
Barrick Gold, Bell Canada, CIBC, CNW Group, Ernst & Young, Scotiabank,
Standard & Poor's, State Street Trust Company, TD Financial Group, TELUS,
Rogers Communications, and ResMor Trust Company, with the help of world-class
ranked SCRABBLE(R) champions, will battle for the coveted 2009 SCRABBLE(R)
Corporate Challenge title.
"Frontier College's Scrabble(R) Corporate Challenge was a wonderful
experience for me last year. Besides meeting new people both in my firm and at
the tournament, I had an enjoyable evening participating for such a worthwhile
cause. The event was well organized and a memorable event for all involved.
PricewaterhouseCoopers is ready to defend our TMX Cup title on March 11,"
explained Carol Laimer, Tax Sales & Business Development
Established in 2005, this unique fundraising event was fashioned for
corporations to challenge their business colleagues and gather for an evening
of fun, while supporting literacy. A SCRABBLE(R) tournament is the perfect
event to bring awareness to low literacy rates in Canada. Since 2005, close to
$1 million has been raised, which spells success for Frontier College and its
important mission to improve literacy rates across Canada.
"With more than 40% of Canadians struggling to read and write, our
SCRABBLE(R) Corporate Challenge is the perfect antidote. Having Bay Street
executives roll up their sleeves to play SCRABBLE(R), shows corporate Canada's
desire to be a part of the literacy solution," said Sherry Campbell,
President, Frontier College. "I take my hat off to TMX Group and the 50 teams
that will compete this year to help turn around the shocking statistic about
literacy in Canada."
Frontier College invites companies to show their SCRABBLE(R) prowess by
entering a team and challenging their business competitors for the TMX Cup.
