WOODSTOCK, NB, Sept. 2 /CNW/ - John Maduri, CEO of Barrett Xplore Inc.
spoke today in response to Industry Canada's announcement of calls for
application for the new Broadband Canada: Connecting Rural Canadians program.
"Barrett Xplore would like to congratulate Industry Canada on initiating
a forward-thinking infrastructure program that will lay an important
foundation for Canada's digital future. Achieving 100% broadband availability,
when combined with 100% digital literacy and 100% e-enablement, will create
new economic opportunities for rural Canadians."
Industry Canada completed a comprehensive nationwide survey of broadband
access that allowed this program to be targeted to the areas where private
business has not been able to economically deliver broadband to date. As a
result, Canada is well on its way to being the first country to bridge the
urban/rural digital divide and providing the best value to Canadian consumers.
The Broadband Canada program, combined with other government initiatives and
private investment, create the momentum to finish the job of providing access
to all rural Canadians.
"Barrett Xplore Inc. looks forward to participating in this program. Like
the Government of Canada, we believe broadband should be available to every
Canadian," concluded John Maduri.
