Barrett Xplore Inc. expands its presence in Québec

Purchases 3.5 GHz WiMAX spectrum in Québec and welcomes Michel Clair
                           to its Board of Advisors

WOODSTOCK, NB, Aug. 12 /CNW Telbec/ - Barrett Xplore Inc. is pleased to
announce that it has acquired 3.5 GHz WiMAX spectrum and welcomes Michel Clair
to its Board of Advisors. Both of these announcements help to entrench Barrett
Xplore as the largest rural provider of broadband in the country, and confirm
Barrett Xplore's commitment in Québec.
The acquisition of 3.5 GHz WiMAX spectrum from Telecom Warwick allows
Barrett Xplore to reach over 750,000 Québecers and enables the deployment of
robust WiMax based Xplornet high-speed broadband Internet service into
currently un-served and under-served regions of rural Quebec. This spectrum
covers several regions in Québec, including La Montérégie, the Eastern
Townships, and several MRCs in Le Centre du Québec and les Bois Francs.
"Barrett Xplore is committed to expanding in Québec and this acquisition
helps us take the next important step towards providing more Québecers with
urban-quality, high-speed Internet access." noted Charles Beaudet, Barrett
Xplore Inc. General Manager for Québec and the Atlantic provinces.
The acquisition of these licences follows Barrett Xplore's recent network
deployment in the Thetford Mines area. In May, Barrett Xplore began offering
rural Québecers in this area Xplornet high-speed Internet services using its
newly constructed fixed wireless network. With today's WiMAX announcement,
residents in the Thetford Mines region will now receive additional coverage
with 3.5 GHz WiMAX spectrum.
"In addition to the spectrum announcement, I am pleased to announce that
Michel Clair has joined the Barrett Xplore Inc. Board of Advisors." said
company chairman Bill Barrett. "Michel brings a wealth of knowledge and
expertise to our organization that will help us to build on the incredible
success of Xplornet Internet services in Thetford Mines and the opportunities
created by these new licences."
Michel has worked in the technology sector and a number of health-related
organizations. He has extensive experience in public and governmental affairs,
policies and strategies. Mr. Clair also served as Executive Vice President of
Hydro-Québec. Since January 2003, he has been the President and General
Manager of Sedna Health Group and he is also President of the Université de
Sherbrooke Alumni Association, an ambassador for Scout Québec, a member of the
Board of Directors of the Hôpital Louis-H. Lafontaine, and of L'Unique, an
insurance company associated with the La Capitale Financial Group.
