Bank of Canada Announces Appointment of Special Adviser



    OTTAWA, Aug. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - The Bank of Canada today announced the
appointment of Professor Paul Masson to the position of Special Adviser for
the year 2007-08. Prof. Masson, who will join the Bank in September, is
currently Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor at the Rotman School of
Management, Research Affiliate at the National Bureau of Economic Research,
and Research Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute.
    The Special Adviser position was created to bring additional perspectives
to monetary policy discussions. It also gives university and private sector
professionals in economics and finance first-hand knowledge of the Bank of
Canada. Professor Masson's expertise in the area of monetary policy will
benefit the Bank during its ongoing research program on Canada's inflation
target and the monetary policy framework.
    Professor Masson holds a PhD from the London School of Economics. Prior
to his appointment at the Rotman School of Management, Prof. Masson was
Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. For the
previous eighteen years he worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in
the Research, European, and African departments, ending as Senior Advisor.
Before that, he worked at the OECD and at the Bank of Canada, ending as Deputy
Chief, Monetary and Financial Analysis. He has published extensively on
monetary policy issues and international economics, including two recent
books, one based on his lectures in international finance and another an
analysis of currency regimes in Africa.
