Bahrain Health Minister Signs on for Canadian Quality Program

OTTAWA, June 1 /CNW Telbec/ - The Bahrain Ministry of Health has turned
to the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) to capitalize
on CCHSA's experience and expertise in the system approach which places safety
and quality at the forefront of health care. The Salmaniya Medical Complex,
Bahrain's main public hospital, the Psychiatric Hospital and the 21 primary
health care centres in Bahrain, will all participate in the CCHSA
International accreditation program.
The agreement was finalized and signed by the Bahrain Ministry of Health
and Martin Beaumont, Director, CCHSA International earlier this month in the
Middle East. The agreement paves the way for CCHSA to guide health care
organizations to both raise and celebrate the quality of services health
professionals provide to their communities. "Improving health services to high
standards against benchmark countries is definitely our vision" said Dr. Nada
Haffadh, Bahrain's health minister. "We want to see this in both public and
private sectors".
Accreditation is one of the most effective ways for health services
organizations to regularly and consistently examine and improve the quality of
their services. CCHSA will transfer its knowledge and expertise by guiding the
health providers through their readiness assessment, standards self
assessment, simulation survey and offering education, and a Canadian peer
review survey for the entire public health system of Bahrain.
"It is rewarding to be in a position to help in the development and
improvement of health care in Bahrain", said Wendy Nicklin, President and
Chief Executive Officer of CCHSA. CCHSA has successfully marketed its national
accreditation program in more than a dozen countries, such as Saudi Arabia,
Italy, France, Ireland and Brazil. One third of all new accreditation programs
and standards developed worldwide have taken their lead from CCHSA.
The Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation
is a non-profit and independent organization that provides national and
international health and social service organizations with a voluntary,
external peer review to assess the quality of their services. CCHSA's guidance
has been helping organizations strive for excellence for close to 50 years.
