Avnel Gold announces appointment of Chief Operating Officer

    LONDON, United Kingdom, March 27 /CNW Telbec/ - Avnel Gold Mining Ltd.
(TSX; AVK) ("Avnel") is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Colin J.S.
Belshaw as Chief Operating Officer with immediate effect. Mr. Belshaw will be
based in Mali with responsibility for Avnel's Kalana gold mining operations.
    Avnel is engaged in strengthening the management team at the company's
principal asset, the Kalana gold mine in Mali, West Africa. Mr. Belshaw's
appointment as Chief Operating Officer is a significant step in this process,
and follows on the previously announced appointment of Dr. Andy Killick as
Vice President Exploration.
    Avnel welcomes Mr. Belshaw and believes he will play a key role in it
implementing its business plan for the Kalana mine, which is planned to
materially increase ore production to 5,000 tonnes per month in the latter
part of 2008.
    Mr. Belshaw has 29 years direct experience in the industry, the majority
being in underground production, both large scale and small, ranging from
narrow vein mining to large diameter blast hole and VCR techniques.
Mr. Belshaw was Mine Superintendent at the South Crofty Mine in Cornwall and
then was appointed Manager Mining at the Nkana Division of ZCCM in the Zambian
Copperbelt. Thereafter he worked for the Turquoise Ridge Mine (Getchell) in
Northern Nevada in difficult ground conditions. Mr. Belshaw, after leaving
Kinross Gold (where he was Director General, Far East Operations reporting to
the COO), was based in Ghana as Vice President Operations for Golden Star's
Bogoso/Prestea Mine (including the Prestea Underground Project) and its Wassa
Mine.
    Mr. Belshaw's experience encompasses both base and precious metals
operations in varied geographical locations (including West Africa) and in
both narrow vein underground and open pit gold mining.
    Mr. Belshaw graduated as a mining engineer at the Camborne School of
Mines in Cornwall, is a Fellow of the Institution of Materials Minerals and
Mining (FIMMM), and is registered as a Professional Engineer with the
Engineering Council of the United Kingdom. He also holds the Ghanaian Mine
Managers Certificate.

    Avnel's principal asset is an 80% interest in Société d'Exploitation des
Mines d'Or de Kalana ("SOMIKA"). SOMIKA is the holder of a 30 year
exploitation permit encompassing 387.4 sq. km. around and to the south of the
operating Kalana gold mine in South West Mali. Avnel also holds the Fougadian
Exploration Permit covering an area of 150 sq. km. which lies to the South of
the main Kalana 30 year Exploitation Permit

    Avnel is a gold mining producing company operating the Kalana mine and is
engaged in the exploration of the Kalana Permit and the Fougadian Permit.
