As Part of the Journées de la culture: A Montréal Premiere of an Architectural Video-Projection

The Conveyor Pier Tower Becomes the Ephemeral Lighthouse

MONTREAL, Sept. 25 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quays of the Old Port and VYV are
pleased to invite everyone to attend the projections of the Ephemeral
Lighthouse on September 26 and 27, at 7:30, 9:00 and 10:30 p.m., and to
witness the very first architectural video-projection on the Quays of the Old
Port of Montréal.
During this first initiative designed to showcase the heritage buildings
on the Quays of the Old Port, the Conveyor Pier Tower will be literally
transformed through the magic of sound and light. The Conveyor Pier Tower will
serve as the canvas for VYV Corporation artists, set to a soundtrack by Daniel
Bélanger. The visual concept developed by Cyril Van Duynslaeger, VYV's
Artistic Director, is based on the powerful Photon software developed by this
young Montréal company that makes it possible to project video images onto
highly complex architectural "canvases."
"We decided that the best way to showcase the Conveyor Pier Tower was to
invite everyone to share this special experience," explains Cyril Van
Duynslaeger. "The Ephemeral Lighthouse is a gift, both for those of us who
have redrawn its contours and brought its every surface to life and, I am
convinced, for those who will have a chance to witness this fleeting but
stunning sight."

    An annual event

The Ephemeral Lighthouse is the first initiative to showcase the building
in the Old Port, but is not likely to be the last! "Over the next few years,
we intend to create a whole series of architectural video-projections on the
Quays of the Old Port," says Claude Benoit, President and CEO of the Old Port
of Montréal Corporation. "This will allow us to show Montrealers, other
Quebeckers and, of course, tourists the fabulous built heritage of the Quays
of the Old Port and the surrounding area."
"For many years now, the Old Port Corporation has been developing a plan
to showcase the Old Port of Montréal's industrial and shipping heritage," adds
Ms. Benoit. "The monumental video-projection technique is clearly one of the
most spectacular ways of spotlighting these buildings. We hope to work with
VYV to shed light on our historic buildings in spectacular fashion, while
drawing on the expertise of local companies and the talent of Quebec artists
and designers."
The Ephemeral Lighthouse: a unique artistic, historic and cultural
rendezvous. Don't miss it, on September 26 and 27, on the city's most fabulous
"I have only one suggestion for this event: come on out, watch, dance and
enjoy!" says VYV's Artistic Director, Cyril Van Duynslaeger.
