Are You Prepared if a Pandemic Flu Hits Your Office?

In partnership with St. John Ambulance, Grand & Toy introduces FLU SAFE:
A Flu Preparedness Kit for Canadian businesses

TORONTO, March 1 /CNW/ - Many Canadian businesses know the threat of a
pandemic flu outbreak and are putting contingency plans in place as a
precaution. To help Canada's workforce prepare for such an outbreak, Grand &
Toy has partnered with St. John Ambulance to offer the FLU SAFE Flu
Preparedness Kit: a compact package of tools to help prevent the spread of
viruses. The kit is designed for Canadian businesses of all sizes, but
especially the mid- to large-business market, which represents the largest
risk for spreading the pandemic flu within the workplace.
"Our partnership with Grand & Toy to promote the use of the FLU SAFE kit
among Canada's businesses is a testament to our combined commitment to promote
a healthy work environment," said Perry Kelly, Director of Public Safety, St.
John Ambulance. "If a pandemic flu outbreak were to occur, employee absence
rates between 20 to 60 per cent are expected.(1) These kits help make it
easier for companies to prepare for situations like this and limit the spread
of germs."
With people often working in close contact with one another, as well as
sharing tools like pens and telephones, the workplace is one of the most
common places that the flu can spread from person to person. Not only can a
pandemic flu outbreak cause people to become seriously ill, but it can also
have a negative impact on a business's bottom line as a result of absenteeism
and a drop in productivity. With this in mind, the St. John Ambulance-branded
FLU SAFE Flu Preparedness Kit was designed to provide companies with a toolkit
for individual employees, including hand sanitizer, antiseptic wipes, surgical
masks and vinyl gloves.
"At Grand & Toy we recognize the impact a pandemic flu could have on our
customers' businesses, both large and small, where absenteeism due to
prolonged illness can significantly affect productivity," said Susan Miller,
Director of Sales Programs, Office Supplies, Grand & Toy. "That is precisely
why we partnered with St. John Ambulance to create this FLU SAFE kit - to help
minimize the spread of the virus and keep businesses moving."
St. John Ambulance recommends that businesses follow three key steps to
help reduce the risk of a widespread flu outbreak:

    - Become knowledgeable on the difference between common flu and
        pandemic flu by visiting
    - Offer employees one FLU SAFE Flu Preparedness Kit and ensure there is
17 weeks worth of components on hand per employee in case of a
pandemic (kit has one week's worth of contents per person)
    - Reduce face-to-face exposure through conference calls, video
        conferencing and working from home

The FLU SAFE Flu Preparedness Kit is now available to Grand & Toy's
commercial customers at at a cost of $10.99 CDN per kit.
Replenishment supplies for the kits are also available in bulk orders. Kit
contents include:

1 120 ml bottle of hand sanitizer
        10 alcohol wipes
        5 surgical masks
        5 pairs of vinyl gloves
