Appointments to the Halifax Port Authority

    OTTAWA, Feb. 4 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointments of
Ms. Anne Galbraith of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and Mr. Thomas McInnis of Sheet
Harbour, Nova Scotia, to the board of directors of the Halifax Port Authority
for terms of three years each.
    "I am delighted that Ms. Galbraith and Mr. McInnis have agreed to serve
on the board of the Halifax Port Authority," said Minister Cannon. "Her
considerable financial experience and his extensive experience in commercial
law will together be important assets to the port authority."
    Ms. Galbraith earned a bachelor of commerce degree in accounting from
Mount Allison University in 1986. She became a chartered accountant in 1990
and a certified financial planner in 2000. She has worked as an accountant and
auditor with a number of well-known firms. She is a member of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia and a past member of the Halifax Chamber
of Commerce business park task force.
    Mr. McInnis holds a degree in commerce from St. Mary's University and
practised law until 2005, specializing in commercial and corporate law. A
member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society, he is also an active member of
the Greater Halifax Partnership and has been president of the Sheet Harbour
and Area Chamber of Commerce since 2006.
    The Halifax Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established
to manage the Port of Halifax, under the Canada Marine Act. As a CPA, the
Halifax Port Authority benefits from greater management flexibility, including
increased freedom to develop contracts and borrow money from commercial

    The Port of Halifax handles approximately 2,000 ships each year and
welcomes cruise ships and passengers from all over the world.
