OTTAWA, Aug. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of
Mr. Donald Mutch to the board of directors of VIA Rail Canada Inc. for a
period of two years.
"I am pleased that Mr. Mutch has agreed to serve on the board of VIA Rail
Canada Inc.," said Minister Cannon. "VIA Rail provides a vital service to link
our communities and I am confident that his experience in investment and
capital markets will be great assets to the board."
Mr. Mutch has over 30 years of experience in a number of investment,
management and senior advisory roles. He holds a master of arts in economics
from the University of Edinburgh and most recently, Mr. Mutch was responsible
for managing Sun Life's investment portfolio for the corporation's Canadian
operations. Previous to this, Mr. Mutch was the Bank of Montreal's Senior
Vice-President for Market Risk at Bancomer in Mexico City. His
responsibilities included helping develop Bancomer's asset liability
management function and treasury position risk management. In 1995, Mr. Mutch
was selected by the Canadian Bankers Association as the banking industry
appointee to the Government of Canada's Department of Finance. This position
found him consulting with and advising government agencies such as the Bank of
Canada, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, and the
Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation. All of these positions built upon
Mr. Mutch's earlier investment and senior management experience with the Bank
of Montreal, and upon his trading experience with the Bank of Canada.
Mr. Mutch is also an active member of the volunteer community, serving in
a variety of roles, such as Director and Vice-Chairman of the Niagara
Pumphouse Visual Art Centre from 2005-2006; as Director of the Willowbank
School of Restoration Arts from 2004-2005; as Director of the Glenn Gould
Foundation from 2000-2004; as Director and Treasurer and Chairman of the
Investment Committee for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation from
1992-1995; and as Director and advisory board member for the sports celebrity
festival in aid of the Special Olympics from 1989 to 1995.
