OTTAWA, Feb. 1 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of
Mr. Andrew J. Johnston of Surrey, British Columbia, to the board of directors
of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority for a term of two years.
"I am pleased to announce that Mr. Johnston has agreed to serve on the
board of directors of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority," said Minister
Cannon. "His experience as a member of the board of directors of the North
Fraser Port Authority represents a significant asset to the board."
Mr. Johnston is a former member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and
the Canadian Security Intelligence Service who has also worked in security in
the private sector. He is active in the community, volunteering as a minor
league baseball coach and appearing as a sports commentator for Delta
Cablevision, a local broadcaster in British Columbia.
The former port authorities of Fraser River, North Fraser and Vancouver
were officially amalgamated as the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority on January
1, 2008. Seventeen Canada Port Authorities (CPAs) now make up Canada's
national port system. The CPAs are non-share capital corporations incorporated
under the 1998 Canada Marine Act that are of strategic significance to
