OTTAWA, Dec. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of
Mr. Yannick Chiasson of Sept-Iles, Quebec, to the board of directors of the
Sept-Iles Port Authority for a period of three years.
"I am pleased that Mr. Chiasson will be serving on the board of the
Sept-Iles Port Authority as a part-time member and user representative," said
Minister Cannon. "His experience in business will help him as he assumes his
duties on the board."
Mr. Chiasson holds a bachelor's degree in biology and economics from Yale
University. He has worked as a sales representative for Xerox Corporation and
is currently the owner and chief executive officer of YAKA Inc., a company
dealing in property management and office equipment.
The Sept-Iles Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA)
established to manage the Port of Sept-Iles, effective May 1, 1999, under the
Canada Marine Act. As a CPA, the Sept-Iles Port Authority benefits from
greater management flexibility, including increased freedom to enter into
contracts and borrow money from commercial lenders.
Open to year-round navigation, the port of Sept-Iles is the most
important iron ore port in Canada, serving the mining industries of Quebec,
and Newfoundland and Labrador. The port has an annual shipping volume of
approximately 23 million tonnes.
