Appointment to the Quebec Port Authority

    OTTAWA, June 23 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister
of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment
of Mr. Denis Bernier of Levis, Quebec, to the board of directors of the Quebec
Port Authority for a term of two years.
    "I am very pleased that Mr. Bernier has agreed to serve on the Quebec
Port Authority's board of directors," said Minister Cannon. "His experience
and expertise will serve the board well."
    Mr. Denis Bernier holds an engineering degree from Université Laval. He
was the chair of the Conseil régional de l'environnement Chaudière-Appalaches
from 1995 to 1997. He held the position of Secretary-Treasurer for the Réseau
Environnement from 1998 to 2001 and went on to pursue the position of project
director for the Experts Enviroconseil firm from 2000 to 2004. Mr. Bernier
concurrently held the senior position of Vice-President of Réseau
Environnement in the ground and water division, from 2001 to 2002. He has been
a Fellow of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec as well as a member of the
Association québécoise de vérification environnementale. In addition, he has
served on the board of numerous companies, including Ressourcerie de Lévis,
Centre d'expertise sur les matières résiduelles and the Association québécoise
des techniques de l'eau. Currently, he is the project director of SOLMERS Inc.
since 2005.

    The Quebec Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established
to manage the Port of Quebec, under the Canada Marine Act. As a CPA, the
Quebec Port Authority benefits from greater management flexibility, including
increased freedom to develop contracts and borrow money from commercial
    Open year-round, the Port of Quebec offers a water depth of 15.5 metres
and access to two transcontinental railway systems. The port's location
positions it as a continental gateway for cargo movements between the major
cities of eastern North America and the rest of the world.
