Appointment to the Canada Post Corporation

    OTTAWA, Aug. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister responsible for the
Canada Post Corporation, today announced the appointment of Mr. A. Michel
Lavigne to the board of directors of the Canada Post Corporation for a term of
four years.
    "Mr. Lavigne brings many years of financial expertise to the Canada Post
Corporation," said Minister Cannon. "I am pleased that he has agreed to serve
on the corporation's board of directors."
    Mr. A. Michel Lavigne was president and chief executive officer of
Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton until May 2005. He was also chairman of the
board of Grant Thornton Canada and was a member of the board of Grant Thornton
International. Since 2005, he has been an administrator with several
companies. Mr. Lavigne has received a number of distinctions, notably as
fellow of the Order of Chartered Accountants of Quebec.
    The Canada Post Corporation, a Crown corporation, is the seventh-largest
employer in Canada. It serves approximately 31 million Canadians and more than
one million businesses and public institutions. Every day, Canada Post
employees deliver approximately 37 million pieces of mail to more than
13 million addresses in Canada.
