Appeal for Witnesses

    TORONTO, Jan. 30 /CNW/ - On Monday January 5, 2009 at approximately 6:06
p.m. officers of the Durham Regional Police went to the Price Chopper Store at
King St East and Wilson Rd. in Oshawa. The police officers interacted with a
middle-aged Caucasian male. The police officers eventually arrested this male.
As a result of this male's contact with the police the Special
Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate.
The SIU is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or
who has any information in relation to the incident to contact the SIU at
1-800-787-8529 or 416-622-1925.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of serious injuries
(including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving the police.
Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU is
mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed by an
officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
