Anvil Mining Limited - New Senior Appointments

    MONTREAL, April 18 /CNW/ - Anvil Mining Limited (TSX, ASX: AVM) ("Anvil"
or the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeff Knuckey as
Vice President Human Resources and Dominique Laffittan as General Manager
Democratic Republic of Congo ("DRC"), effective May 1, 2007. These
appointments will add significant strength to the Company's corporate
structure and facilitate its interactions with government officials, joint
venture and industry partners and multilateral organizations.

    Vice President Human Resources

    As Vice President Human Resources, Jeff Knuckey will be based at the
Company's head office in Perth, Western Australia. Jeff has a BA from the
University of Western Australia and over 25 years of extensive industry
experience. Prior to accepting the position, Jeff held various management
positions with Western Mining Corporation, Lion Nathan and Alcoa and acquired
considerable experience in HR policies and standards, coaching, health and
safety, remuneration systems, training and industrial relations. Among other
things, Jeff will be responsible for developing the Company's Performance
Management System, ensuring that the organizational structure is adequate to
support future growth, succession planning, recruiting, and personnel training
and development. Jeff will report to the Chief Executive Officer.

    General Manager Democratic Republic of Congo

    As General Manager DRC, Dominique Laffittan will be responsible for
general administration at Anvil's offices in Lubumbashi, where he will be
based, and Kinshasa and will work closely with Congolese government
authorities, multilateral organizations, embassies and our joint venture and
industry partners. Dominique's qualifications include: a Masters Degree in
Military Engineering from the French Army Engineers School in Angers; a
Masters Degree in Management Sciences from the University of Paris-Dauphine
and a Masters Degree in Psychology from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. A
retired colonel, he has participated in United Nations missions and various
French military operations around the world and accumulated over 25 years of
experience in geopolitical and military situation analysis, public affairs,
training, and security and protection both in Africa and the Balkans. He was
previously Security Advisor to the chief of the MONUC/Katanga office and Field
Security Coordinator Officer for MONUC/DRC. Dominique will report to Chief
Operating Officer Malcolm Hillbeck.
    "The appointment of these two senior managers is a result of the
Company's recent growth and anticipated expansion in the next three years,
which should more than double our current production to over 100,000 tonnes of
copper per year from existing mineral properties," said Bill Turner, President
and Chief Executive Officer of Anvil Mining. "We have made various
appointments in the past two years to enhance our in-house capabilities in a
number of important areas. The current additions will make us more effective,
with a stronger organizational structure, and better position the Company to
manage the challenges of the DRC environment and more complex development
projects, thereby enhancing our capacity to execute our growth strategy."

    Anvil Mining Limited is an unhedged copper and silver producer whose
shares are listed for trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange (as common shares)
and the Australian Stock Exchange (as CDIs) under the symbol AVM. It owns and
operates the Dikulushi copper-silver mine and the Kulu coarse rejects/tailings
operation in Katanga Province of the DRC. In addition, the Company is
currently developing the Kinsevere Stage I copper-cobalt project, which will
be the Company's third mine development in the DRC.
