MONTREAL, March 23 /CNW Telbec/ - The seventh edition of AMERICANA, the
International Environmental Technology Trade Show and Conference, closed
yesterday on an extremely positive note for the nearly 10,000 participants who
attended to learn about developments in the environment industry. The theme of
AMERICANA 2007, for which the Prime Minister of Canada served as Honorary

a timely update on the best ways to reconcile environmental concerns and the

Export Trade (MDEIE); Jean Lemire, leader of the Antarctic Mission and a
well-known environmentalist in Québec; Albin Tremblay, Regional Director
General, Environment Canada; and Alain Lemaire, President and CEO of Cascades.
"The quality of the speakers and the importance of the issues discussed
at AMERICANA always attract a lot of industry professionals who come to learn
about the latest developments in environmental protection," noted Jean-Noel
Sergerie, Chairman of the Board of RESEAU environnement, the organizer of
AMERICANA. "We feel that it is very important for people to be able to discuss
the trends that are having a growing impact on economic development."
AMERICANA 2007 placed emphasis on the opportunities opening up through
innovation and processes improvements for industries using natural resources.
In the view of many specialists, there are possibilities for growth and wealth
creation which many industrial sectors should not underestimate.
Some of the topics addressed this year were carbon credits, green
buildings, water regulations, and site decontamination and remediation. Over
the three days of AMERICANA 2007, more than 160 presentations, round table
discussions, technology exhibits, and case studies focused on drinking water,
wastewater, solid waste, air and climate change, contaminated soil and
groundwater, sustainable economic development, green buildings, sustainable
cities, bioproducts, biofuels and biogas.

The trade show and the business matchmaking forum

On the 82 000 m2 exhibition floor, several hundred companies and agencies
showcased their latest environmental technology products and services. In
addition to companies and agencies from most provinces in Canada, AMERICANA
2007 hosted booths from a variety of other countries, including France,
Belgium, Germany, Poland, Austria, the Netherlands, Russia, the United Kingdom
and the United States.
"Recently we have seen a renewed interest in the industry, as well as
