Aliant employees help kids in Atlantic Canada as Backpacks for Kids campaign donates 2,200 backpacks to children in need - surpassing year's total donation by over 400 backpacks!

    SAINT JOHN, NB, Sept. 5 /CNW/ - Aliant employees have completed
distribution of 2,200 backpacks full of over $95,000 worth of new school
supplies to children in need in Atlantic Canada. The donation comes from
Backpacks for Kids, an annual Aliant program which aims to make back-to-school
easier for kids in need. While the backpacks were provided by Aliant, they
were filled with new school supplies by Aliant employees and Aliant Pioneer
    "We had an amazing response from employees to Backpacks for Kids, we
surpassed last year's donation total by over 400 backpacks," said Robyn
Tingley, Vice President Communications and Public Affairs, Aliant. "The
generosity of our employees speaks to the dedication they have to their
communities. We are especially proud that Aliant is able to help kids in the
Atlantic Provinces have a great start to the school year."
    Around Atlantic Canada Aliant employees "adopted" backpacks which they
filled with their own donation of school supplies. Employees adopted backpacks
as individuals, with co-workers and as part of departmental teams.
    Backpacks were distributed by the Aliant employees and Aliant Pioneer
Volunteers to schools and community based organizations around Atlantic Canada
that support children and families.
