Algoma Teachers Ink Tentative Agreement

    TORONTO, April 28 /CNW/ - Elementary public school teachers, members of
the Algoma Elementary Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of
Ontario (ETFO), reached a tentative collective agreement with the Algoma
District School Board yesterday afternoon.
    "The ETFO takeover team has done a fantastic job for our members. They
met with the board on numerous occasions and bargained around the clock to get
a deal," said ETFO President David Clegg. "This agreement benefits elementary
teachers, the Algoma District School Board, and elementary students," Clegg
    Details of the agreement will be available following a members'
ratification vote.
    The Algoma Elementary Teacher Local represents more than 400 public
elementary school teachers. Their last contract expired August 31, 2008.
    The ETFO Algoma Occasional Teacher Local reached a tentative agreement on
April 24.

    The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
