TORONTO, May 15 /CNW/ - Public elementary occasional teachers, members of the Algoma Occasional Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), ratified a new four-year collective agreement today. The Local reached their tentative agreement on April 24. "Algoma is all wrapped up. Yesterday evening our elementary teacher members ratified their agreement and today our occasional teacher members ratified their agreement," said ETFO President David Clegg. "Every ratification is an endorsement of our campaign to improve working conditions for public elementary teachers and occasional teachers. Each contract that is settled also means improved learning conditions for students along with peace and stability for that community," Clegg said. The Algoma Occasional Teacher Local represents approximately 270 public elementary occasional teachers and the Algoma Teacher Local represents more than 400 public elementary teachers. Their last contracts expired on August 31, 2008. The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000 elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
