AFNQL Elected Women: "We felt the need to exchange and to confer" - Marjolaine Etienne, representative of the AFNQL with the AFN Women's Council

WENDAKE, QC, Sept. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - The elected women of the Assembly of
First Nations of Quebec and Labrador (AFNQL) are gathering for the first time
ever to exchange and confer on their political commitment towards their
community and more generally, towards the First Nations.
A working group formed of elected women of the AFNQL, was created
following a resolution of the AFNQL Chiefs' table, in 2007. This group had the
task to prepare a proposal on the mandate of the AFNQL's representativeness
within the AFN Women's Council, and on the definition and the eventual
creation of a structure sustaining this representation.
"After several reunions of the working group, we decided that, time had
come to assemble all the elected women of the AFNQL, in order to endow
ourselves with a support structure which would become the Elected Women's
Council. We will take advantage of this opportunity to present the outcome of
our reflections", explains Ms Marjolaine Etienne.
The AFNQL Elected Women Gathering, the first ever to be held in Quebec,
will be taking place on September 24 and 25 at Manoir St-Castin du Lac
Beauport. More than 85 elected women of the AFNQL are expected at this first
