Advisory: Media invited to tour nearly completed Olympic and Paralympic Village Whistler on Thursday, August 20

    Registration required for media access to exclusive guided tour

    VANCOUVER, Aug. 14 /CNW/ - The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the
2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) will host a media briefing
and tour of the nearly completed Olympic and Paralympic Village Whistler on
Thursday, August 20.
    This will be the best and final official opportunity before the Games for
media to tour the village for photos, b-roll and interviews with key
personnel. Transportation within Whistler and lunch will be provided on-site
during the four-hour tour.
    The village, nestled within Whistler's scenic Cheakamus Valley, will
house approximately 3,850 athletes, officials and coaches during the Games in
the brand-new duplexes, apartments and townhomes within its 40 hectares. All
Whistler competition venues are less than a 30-minute drive away.
    Media are requested to RSVP with the names of their outlet and staff
wishing to attend at by 5 pm on Tuesday,
August 18. Please note space on the tour is limited.
    The media tour will start with media registration at Legends Whistler,
located at the base of Whistler Creekside, followed by the shuttling of media
to the village via bus transport. Opening remarks will be followed by tours of
the townhomes, modular housing and athlete amenities, including the High
Performance Centre, a training facility located within the village's Whistler
Athletes' Centre. A lunch, along with special presentations, will conclude the
tour. Media will be able to file directly from Legends upon their return.

    Please note: There is free parking at Creekside in the skiers' parking
lot. Media are asked to park on level P1 only. Access to the venue is possible
only by bus. The buses will leave Legends at 10:20 am. Participants are asked
to wear long pants, shirts with sleeves and closed shoes for the tour.
