Adequate training no longer out of reach for the Canadian Volunteer Fire Service

GUELPH, ON, April 21 /CNW/ - A safer community along with preserving
lives is the mission of every volunteer and combination fire department. With
the community's best interest in mind, adequate training should not be
optional due to a lack of funding. In order for communities to benefit from
highly trained fire professionals a $1 million dollar training grant for
online distance education has been instituted for 2009.
The Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association (CVFSA) is an official
partner for this initiative because they believe online distance education is
one way to ensure that all firefighters, volunteer or career, are prepared for
every type of situation they encounter while on the job. Speaking on the
advantages of online training, Martin Bell, the President of the CVFSA states,
"In all fields a fast-growing trend is via distance training in the form of
online internet classes where it gives the individual the flexibility to fit
lifestyle around family." Mr. Bell continues, "The CVFSA believes in offering
the volunteer firefighters the ability to train under NFPA standards towards
improving their skills with this unique approach of combining innovation with
To aid the CVFSA in their endeavor to further benefit the more than 3000
Canadian volunteer and combination fire departments, Medteq Solutions CA, an
online training provider, has agreed to be the delivery partner for this
training grant. Speaking on this partnership and benefit to the fire service,
Ken Dobra, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Fire Fighters
Association says, "At this time of financial restraint, Medteq Solutions
should be applauded for their effort to help volunteer fire fighters attain a
level of training which will add to their safety at an incident." Providing
equal training opportunities will promote the safety of fire fighters, but
ultimately it will give Canadian communities something they deserve, the most
highly trained fire fighting professionals. The grant application will be made
available beginning May 1st 2009, visit or
